Alphonse Burns Retires Celebrating 37 Years with Reimer Express Lines Ltd.
Alphonse Burns began working for Reimer Express Lines on May 20th, 1966 as one of only four midnight dock workers at the Toronto Terminal on Coronet Road. Alphonse moved onto the afternoon shift and in 1985, with his seniority, he moved to the day shift.
As a hearing impaired employee, Alphonse faced many challenges in the workplace and conquered all of them from flat deck work, to loading pups for western Canada, to working international freight, In his 37 years of service Alphonse has seen and been part of all our operational changes, through three different Toronto terminals facilities.
Alphonse was always friendly and respected by his co workers. An avid fan of the WWF.
The Burns family resides in Oakville, Alphonse has a daughter Christine and a son Justin. Currently Alphonse is traveling and we suspect he will be stopping in at his hometown of Blackville, NB.
We were very fortunate to have his daughter Christine here August 28, to help us all recognize and celebrate this milestone retirement. Christine was able to translate through sign, so many of us were able to have a full conversation with Alphonse.
We wish Alphonse and his family great health and much success in the years ahead.
Don Hunter - 4 Million Miler
Think of it, the moon is 240,000 miles away. As a 4 Million Miler Don Hunter, Reimer Express Lines linehaul driver, could have safely traveled to the moon and back almost 17 times. Now, as you might recall, the entire Apollo program had 17 missions and not all of these even went to the moon, and a few of these were not accident-free. That certainly puts Don's accomplishments in perspective.
Don has worked for Reimer for over 38 years. Having reached the four million accident-free milestone is not his first accomplishment and likely will not be his last. He also has received the MTA (Manitoba Trucking Association) Driver of the Month award (April, 1980). The Driver of the Month award is also sponsored by the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation. In addition to these awards, Don became a member of the President's Club in 1975 and has won four trips to Hawaii in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments.
As you can imagine, having spent such a large part of his life on the road, in the service of his company, Don has found himself in situations that require everything from acts of kindness to acts of heroism. When he came across an individual who had had his money stolen by a hitchhiker, Don gave the gentleman money to continue his journey. When he came across an accident near Nipigon, Ontario he put himself at great risk to rescue the woman who was trapped in the car. The car had rolled over and the roof was flattened even with the tops of the seats. The women driver was alone in the vehicle, the driver's window was open and she was lying face down in the earth around the car, unable to breathe. Don immediately cleared away the dirt allowing her to breathe, which most surely saved her life. He then entered the car through the trunk, tearing out the back seat and the right front bucket seat so that he could move her out of the car through the rear window.
Don's more than four million accident-free miles, combined with his generosity and courage are the attributes that continue to make Reimer Express Lines such a recognized name in delivering high-quality LTL services. All employees that work with Don, along with the Management of Reimer Express Lines Ltd congratulate Don on this major accomplishment and wish him continued success.
Don is a line driver based out of Winnipeg. He and his wife Sylvia have been married for 45 years and have one daughter, two sons and four grandchildren. His daughter is an Executive in Calgary with a major corporation and his two sons have a truck repair facility in Winnipeg. Although Don is on the road much of the year, he always takes time off between Christmas and New Years to be with his family and do some snowmobiling.

This is not Larry's first accomplishment by any stretch. Larry recently won First in Province, plus Grand Champion and then won first at the Nationals. He was a member of the Championship Team from Saskatchewan who earned top spot at the Nationals with overall points.
