Linehaul drivers at Memphis, Tenn., hold Roadway's all-time safe-driving record. They drove 25,443,130 miles without a preventable accident between May 20, 2002, and January 22, 2003.

Community Service

Our corporate citizenship program affirms our commitment to the broader needs and concerns of society. Priorities include highway safety, children's health and educational needs, and the United Way. Programs at the corporate level that promote these focus areas include:

Corporate and district road teams-Roadway drivers and dockworkers assist with presentations about the industry and safety issues to national media, customers, legislators, community organizations and schools.
No-Zone Trailers-Three 48-foot Roadway trailers and four 28-foot pups share the No-Zone safety message about truck blind spots with motorists in a public safety campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Christina's Smile Dental Trailers-Free-of-charge linehaul service is provided for a charitable dental clinic that travels in two 48-foot trailers with the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour. Since its inception in 1990, the program has provided more than 32,000 children with over $10 million worth of dental care.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-Fund-raising activities and payroll deduction by Roadway employees raised over $475,000 for St. Jude in 2004. St. Jude is the Memphis-based center for the research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children. In just five years, Roadway employees have raised over $1.9 million for this cause.
Job Corps-Roadway has partnered with the U.S. Department of Labor's Job Corp program to develop a tractor-trailer driver-training program to prepare disadvantaged youth for jobs within the trucking industry. Roadway is also providing a truck technician program curriculum in conjunction with the United Auto Workers-Labor Employment and Training Corporation.
"Share the Road Safely" Trailer-A Roadway trailer displays the Ohio State Highway Patrol's "Share the Road Safely" message throughout Ohio. The message is funded by a federal education grant from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
